Can I open a Simplicity Investment Funds account for my grandchildren?

We do allow child investment accounts under our Investment Fund option. However, for investors under the age of 18, accounts can only be opened by a parent or legal guardian.

If the parents of your grandchild wish to open an account for the child, please ask them to use the online joining form here with the child's details in the applicant fields here.

The parent/s of the child need to provide NZ-issued ID and a residential address in New Zealand. They’ll also need to provide the child's birth certificate.

Once the account is open, you can deposit funds into an Investment Fund account, provided you have the correct bank account number and reference information on the deposit (this information will be sent through as part of the enrolment process). Once your grandchild turns 18, they’ll be able to take control of the account.

Another option is that you could open an account in your own name with the funds you intend for your grandchildren, and you could then gift them the money at a future date of your choice.
