How do I contribute if I'm self employed or want to make a voluntary contribution?

If you’re self-employed, working as a contractor or sole trader, or not currently employed, you can make voluntary contributions to your KiwiSaver account.

To make a one-off or regular contribution to your Simplicity KiwiSaver account, log in to the member app and click Make a deposit under your KiwiSaver balance. This will show you our banking instructions and the references you’ll need to use.

Please make sure you include the required references when making a deposit. If we receive a deposit without the required references, it may be returned to your bank account.

From the time funds are received, it takes around 2 working days for the contribution to appear as a pending transaction. It usually takes 3–4 working days after funds are received for them to show as fully invested in your account.

You can view transactions under Manage your fund on the Fund details screen.

If you’re not employed, you may still be eligible for the government contribution. Check the eligibility criteria, and visit the IRD website for more information about making contributions and the benefits of KiwiSaver.
